Cheap Travel
You would be beyond hard-pressed to find even a single person that didn’t absolutely love being able to get away from it all every once in a while. Unfortunately, traveling just as in past cheap as it used to be – especially if you’re looking to take a once in a lifetime trip to reboot, refresh, and restart your life.
This has to do with a lot of the crippled economic conditions we are all living with (as many of us certainly have the time, just not the funds), but there are a couple of other reasons that this just isn’t possible. People have almost forgotten the art of cheap travel, ignoring the weekend getaways while paying attention only to exorbitantly expensive all-inclusive destination trips.
Of course, there are a handful of tips that you can use to lock up fantastically cheap travel options – but you have to know the insider secrets to take advantage of each and every one of them. This kind of information just isn’t common knowledge, but we’ve included some of the very best tips below.
Look at cheap travel options in your immediate area
This might be the very best way for you to get away for a while without having to break the bank. All you have to do is look to your immediate area – maybe the two or three close the cities to you, and if you live in a major metro area you might just look at a handful of neighborhoods you don’t spend any time in. The odds are fantastic that there are a couple of hidden gems all around you that you never even considered as a quick getaway, and you won’t have to deal with the pain, hassle, and added expense of planning and expensive trip.
Also, look to see what kinds of transportation deals you can find in your local area. Many times smaller businesses or tiny chains are willing to give fantastic first time deals to new customers, especially if you are from their local area and could potentially become a lifelong customer or client. These deals are also very often overlooked for whatever reason, but can help you score some tremendously cheap travel.
Try to lock up your trips during off-seasons
You may have to make a bit of a trade-off here, but just by choosing to visit locales in their off-season rather than at the peace of their popularity gives you the chance to hit it out of the park with cheap travel. Almost all destination locations around the globe have peak times that they are overwhelmingly popular, followed by long dry spells where it seems like they can get anyone to book a room, fly in, or spend any time there whatsoever. They are likely to give you incredible savings across the board on lighting, dining, and even airfare or travel expenses – if you’ll only opt to go when everyone else seemingly will not.
Of course, avoid any dangerous situations (hurricane or tropical storm season immediately leaps to mind) unless you really, really, REALLY, need to get away – no amount of savings with cheap travel is worth putting yourself through that risk, frustration, and aggravation.
Try out alternative lodging sources of travel
AirB&B has quickly become one of the more popular services all over the world for finding ridiculously cheap travel and lodging options, as has Couchsurfing. These two options allow you to either rent out someone’s home or apartment in the destination that you are looking to spend some time in, or in the case of Couch surfing you can actually spend the night in someone’s home completely and totally free of charge.
While maybe not for the least adventurous of us, these two options can save you a ridiculous amount of money, helping you unlock the secret to cheap travel in ways that others may not be aware of. You could also look for hostels or low-cost lodging online, but these options are not nearly as popular as the two listed above.
Of course, you should also see if there is any other way to travel to your destination rather than using an airplane. Airfare costs can rise dramatically, and are almost always more expensive than say train travel or by ship. Now, if you’re just looking to move about the country the odds are great that you won’t want to take a train or a ship (especially if you are hard-pressed for time), but if it fits into your schedule is these two options can give you ridiculously cheap travel costs with the same – if not higher – levels of comfort.
Cheap travel is not as easy to track down and locate as it used to be, but this in no way means that it is impossible. You’ll have to work just a little bit harder – and plan a little bit more ahead of time – but all in all, you too can enjoy cheap travel with very little extra effort.
